Event Description:

Strong bones are an important part of lifelong healthy living. Bones are strongest around age 30 and then they start to decline. This is intensified by certain medical conditions, medications, or lifestyle choices and can affect both men and women. Increased bone fragility leads to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis has no clinical manifestations until there is a fracture. Fractures cause important morbidity; in men, in particular, they can cause mortality. Osteoporosis results in a decreased quality of life, increased disability-adjusted life spans. With an early diagnosis before fractures occur and by assessing the bone mineral density and with early intervention, osteoporosis can be prevented and improved bone health can be achieved. This course will discuss lifelong bone health and review methods to improve bone health throughout life.
